The central point of departure for Danish artist Signe Kongsgaard Mogensen's practice is a highly original examination of drawing's potential, depth and form with a expert technical command of the material. Her large paper series reflect the artist's special interest in drawing as a refined medium of sight and memory. Connecting her art historical knowledge and interest in science, literature and poetry with artistic practice, Signe Kongsgaard Mogensen creates concentrated stories closely and sensuously connected to the transparent image of our inner and most intimate landscapes. In her most recent large-scale works still in progress (2021-24), the artist combines her Nordic-minimalistic graphic formal language with the medium of warm Tuscan stones to create poetic and powerful art works which, via sophisticated technology, express how tradition mutates and develops at once with us and against us.
Signe Kongsgaard Mogensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. In her twenties she trained at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and as apprentice and assistant in the studio of an Italian artist in France and Rome. In 2010, Signe Kongsgaard Mogensen received an MA in Art History from the university in Copenhagen. She has recently exhibited at the NIKI in Florence. The show was accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue and an international roundtable discussion of her works enriching our understanding of them. Signe currently lives and works in Tuscany and Copenhagen.
